Credits and roles

Credits tell readers who worked on a song and what each person did. You can add the same artist more than once when that person has different roles.

Open the credits section

1. Start a new song with Add Song, or open an existing song and click Suggest an edit in Contributors.
2. Scroll to Song Credits.
3. Choose a role. If the role is not shown, click Add role.
4. Click Add next to the role.
5. Search for the artist and select the correct profile.

Check the artist name and avatar before you select a result. Artists with the same name may have different profiles.

Role groups

Diskograf groups roles under five tags:

• Primary — the main performing artist or artists.
• Writing — composition and lyric-writing work.
• Technical — production and other technical work.
• Musician — instruments and additional performance work.
• Visual — artwork, video and other media work.

The editor shows the current role list. The role title is the label shown to readers. The role group controls where the credit appears on the song page.

Keep writing separate from performing

Writing and performing describe different work. A lead performer who also wrote the song needs both credits. Do not use a primary performer role to mean that the person wrote the song.

For example, if Aina Abdul sings and co-writes a track:

1. Add Aina Abdul under the primary role Lead.
2. Add Aina Abdul again under the writing role Composer or Lyricist, according to the source.
3. Add the other writers under their own writing roles.

This keeps the performing credit in the primary artist list and the writing credit in the writers group.

Credit order

Drag artists into the order shown by the release or the most reliable source. The role order and artist order control how the credits appear on the public song page.

When you finish, review every role and artist order before you click Save.
